FLARE is now Roundout. Same licence, same landings.

What Roundout does with every landing.

It runs beside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on your PC, records each landing, grades it against the aircraft you flew and keeps it. Everything below is drawn from sample landings.

The detailed card: A+, 99 of 100, the coach's note Stable and clean, the six parts with their readings, OMDB 30L in a Boeing 777-300ER, View details and Share.
A+ in a Boeing 777-300ER, with a note from the coach.
The detailed card: B, 82 of 100, a warning that the spoilers were not deployed, the six parts with their readings, OMDB 12R in an Embraer E175.
B, good: the parts show where the points went, and the coach warns about the spoilers.
The detailed card: D, 52 of 100, a warning about a hard landing, the six parts with their readings, KSFO 28R in a Beechcraft King Air 350i, two bounces.
D, poor: with a warning, the card stays 35 s.
As the wheels settle, a score card opens over the sim and says how the landing went and why. Three sample landings on the detailed card, the default.
  • Opens by itself as the wheels settle
  • Closes after 30 s, or 35 s with a warning
  • Waits while your pointer is on it
  • The app runs beside the sim, never inside it

You choose what opens after a landing.

The same landing on each of them. Pick one in Settings, General, under "Score card after each landing". The shorter ones show less and close sooner.

The detailed cardThe default, as at the top of this page

The grade, the coach's note, all six parts with their readings, the airport and the aircraft, View details and Share.

Closes after 30 s, or 35 s with a warning

The short card: A+, 99 of 100, the descent rate and the G-force, OMDB 30L in a Boeing 777-300ER, and View details.

The short card

The top of the detailed card, the two readings that carry half the score, the airport and the aircraft, and View details.

Closes after 15 s, or 20 s with a warning

The strip: one band with A+, 99 of 100, Excellent landing, 42 fpm, 1.17 G, OMDB 30L and View details.

The strip

One band: the grade, the score, the verdict, the two readings, the airport and View details. It takes the least height, so the runway stays in view.

Closes after 15 s, or 20 s with a warning

The tag: A+, 99 of 100, the six parts as one bar, 42 fpm and 1.17 G, and a round button for View details.

The tag

The smallest: the grade, the score, the six parts as one bar, the two readings, and a round button for View details.

Closes after 15 s, or 20 s with a warning

Roundout's Settings, General: the box Score card after each landing is open on The detailed card, The short card, The strip, The tag and Off.
Settings, General, with the box open. The card opens on the screen the sim is on, or one you pick.
  • Off

Nothing opens. Your landings are still scored, saved and synced.

  • See an example

Under the box. It shows the one you chose over your screen, with a sample landing.

  • View score card

On a landing's report it opens the card you chose, or the detailed card with Off.

A grade from six weighted parts.

Each part gets its own score, and its weight sets how much it counts. A bounce or a tail strike costs points, and a strong crosswind is allowed for.

The thresholds are anchored to published sources: FAA and EASA certification rules, and manufacturers' flight manuals and inspection criteria. See how each part is scored

Graded against the aircraft you flew.

Roundout matches the aircraft's title from the sim to a named profile. If none fits, it takes the aircraft's family, then its category. An aircraft it can't place is scored with default values, and the report says so.

  1. First, a named profile A named profile one of 498 profiles Matched
  2. If no profile fits, its family Its family one of 66 families
  3. If no family fits, its category Its category one of 28 categories

Every second of the approach.

Roundout records the whole approach, then the flare: where it began, how long it took and how far you floated.

Recorded each second, with the stability checks on the way down. Read any approach back in the app or on your account, or save it with Raw data.

Live data, as you fly it

A page of the app follows the flight: height, vertical speed, airspeed and G-force, the approach so far, the two stability checks, and the score so far, as if the wheels touched now.

ILS needles, attitude, wind, flaps, spoilers and the autopilot's modes are there too.

The runway, and the weather you landed in.

No averaging and no smoothing: the values at contact, measured against the runway itself, as a flight data recorder keeps them.

    Where the wheels touched

How far past the threshold, how far off the centerline, and where you stopped. Distances along the runway are exact; its width is drawn wider.

      Weather at touchdown

The airport's real-world weather report from the moment of touchdown, read for you. A strong crosswind is allowed for in the grade.

Your logbook, and what it adds up to.

Every landing is kept on your PC, even when you fly offline, and your statistics grow with it.
